We spend it. We
waste it. We share it. Some say we even borrow it to
live. But the one thing most of us have not learned
to do is make it.
Time is that one
instance or single occasion for some event. For most
of us, the big dilemma is what single instance to par
with which event. Very quickly, we realize we have too
many events and not enough instances in one day. We
have goals to meet and dreams to pursue. Demanding the
same time are the hungry kids and the husband who can't
find his keys. Then there is that never ending list
of people to call and places to go. Don't forget choir
rehearsal, the sewing circle and Book Club meeting.
And did I mention, work?
So, how do we make
all those events fit into the 86,400 single instances we have
in one day? Experts
have tried for decades to answer that question. A "time
management" search online produces over 61,600,000 results.
A stop at the local bookstore can take hours as one aisle
after the other is packed with "How to" manage time
publications. There are some who believe a portion of the
brain controls time. Others suggest we set schedules, and
outline priorities as a means of increasing productivity.
Society even tries to
help us control the clock with minute rice, high-speed internet
and instant messages. And the truth be told, we have all come
up with our own techniques to make the most of our time. My
personal favorite is working faster. If you get done quicker,
you will have more time left for other things. That should
only make sense. But, honestly that has been a waste of time
for me, as I find myself spending ever more hours correcting
those hastily made, careless mistakes.
Perhaps time cannot
be managed. But what it can be is used wisely. Throughout
the hustle and bustle of the day, it's easy to forget the
one thing that not only stands the test of time, but outlast
it as well, what you do for Christ. You did not choose me,
but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit
that will last - John 15: 16a (NIV).
As Christian's we must
learn to stop spending, wasting, sharing, borrowing, and trying
to manage time. We must make time. The whole duty of man is
not to pursue dreams and goals. It's to fear God and keep
His commandments (Ecclesiastes 12:13). If you make time for
Christ and fulfill your whole duty, you are guaranteed prosperity.
Before you were conceived in your mother's womb, the Lord
knew you and called you by name.
Even at that point
in your life when you feel like you are running as fast as
you can and you are not getting anywhere, and everything seems
to be falling apart, God knows the plans He has for you.
His plans are of good and not evil. His plans are to prosper
you. Your responsibility now is to seek ye first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness, and all your needs, hopes and
dreams shall be added unto you. If you abide in the Lord,
and He abides in you, you may ask anything in His name, and
He will do it. John 14(NIV). So remember, your time is precious.
Don't manage it, make it.
