While change is
good, growth is better. When you grow in your understanding
of what is best for you; mentally, physically and spiritually,
success is the ONLY option! Rather than bore you with
the mundane list of resolutions and the whys of the
wise, I'd like to jog your memory and play a little
game of who are you?
Question number
one:
What's the one activity you enjoy doing most that makes
you laugh deep from within your belly? Did you know
that there's probably an exercise that mimics this?
Maybe it's dancing, double-dutch, hand ball, hanging
out with your friends. Whatever, wherever, whenever
the operative word here is ever; increasingly, continually,
yet, still, always, it's that simple. Better health
comes by simply moving at a steady pace that increases
your heart rate. Partner that with a healthy eating
get-together to try new recipes and you've got a well
rounded foundation for a healthier you. So round up
your girls and go walking in the mall, go roller skating,
find a recreation center with fitness classes or partner
up and share the cost of a personal trainer.
Goal Support:
- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
(glorify God in body and spirit):
Or don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy
Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You
do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high
price. So you must honor God with your body.
- Proverbs 13:18 (discipline):
If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace;
if you accept criticism, you will be honored. experience
God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human
mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and
minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
- Leviticus 7:23 (A
low-fat diet):
- Proverbs 23:1 (portion
control):
Question number two:
Finish the sentence...when I grow up I want to be a...
Growing up doesn't mean
you have to forget your dreams. Too many of us lose sight
of those dreams and justify it as, life got in the way. God
gave you this life with a unique talent and purpose that only
you can fulfill. He hasn't forgotten that or you, so why should
you. Your success in life has plenty to do with you fulfilling
the plans He has for you. Translation - happiness. Your happiness
in your success is not measured by what others expect of you,
but what you expect of yourself according to what is pleasing
to God. What you wanted to be has, in large, to do with the
inherent characteristics God created you with. So what do
you want to be when you grow up...?
Goal Support:
- Philippians 4:7 (God's
peace...he uses this one to discuss stress management):
If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is
far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His
peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ
Jesus.
Question number three:
What are you looking at?
-Vision
is the ability to see beyond where the eyes can look-Miles
Monroe
Every great organization,
program, and idea has a vision. Have you ever tried writing
down your vision? A written vision is simply the statement
of where you'd like to get to. A Holy Spirit inspired vision
is that thing in your belly that stirs up each time you realize
His grace is upon you. It carries thoughts into plans and
plans into action and action into fulfillment. Keep looking,
when God plants a seed in you he begins to nourish the soil
and a harvest is on its way. What are you looking at?
Goal Support:
- Philippians 4:11 (Be
content):
Dear brothers and sisters, I love you and long to see you,
for you are my joy and the reward for my work. So please
stay true to the Lord, my dear friends.
Resolutions are like
a roller coaster, one month up, one month down and if by chance
you find yourself stuck in a line that won't move you get
out and go to the shortest line with the greatest thrill.
Sure the flip in your gut that drives a thrust of excitement
is amazing but when the ride is over, it's time to get off.
Now what? Instead of setting resolutions, establish a few
goals to improve your mind, your body and your spirit.
Lay out your goals according
to a simple plan. List 3 main targets under each category
of mind, body, and spirit. Use the following layout to guide
you...
Whether
your new goals are for better health, a sharper mind or a
focused spiritual walk, each of the answers you have come
up with will help you find your opportunities. The reason
most resolutions fail is because they are established with
an understanding of limits which translate into negative thoughts
of "less, without, and flat out NO!" All you ever
end up knowing how to do is what not to do. Instead, find
the opportunities like great food, new found talents and eye-opening
insight into everyday life. They begin when you discover yourself.
You
will never change your life until you change something you
do daily.-John Maxwell
